ABOUT:

It’s no secret we Angelino’s prefer a “barely there” look, as we of course love to be beach ready all year round, but where to go when your in need of the service? Stript it all down and head to Stript Wax Bar! Founded in 2009 by Owner Esthetician Katherine Goldman, Karen fulfilled her vision of a boutique dedicated to the art of waxing.  Stript is all about wax, waxing techniques, and creating baby smooth skin that is as painless as it can possibly be.  Waxing of course is their start service, but are also quite known for their line of clinical facials and spray tanning, treatments that most certainly go hand in hand with a great wax!

AMBIENCE

With hints of lavender, crisp white and a bit of sparkle on the walls, Stript LA is the perfect mix of feminine spa meets a chic boutique environment,

IN CROWD

Best known for it’s quick and painless brazilian waxes given by the brilliant and talented Inez, you’ll find the bar has nothing but rave reviews, though waxing isn’t the only thing bringing people through the door. Stript’s revolutionary, customized 4-step facial for your freshly waxed bikini area… the Vagacial! Beginning with an antibacterial wash and followed by an anti-flammatory astringent (perfect to heal any razor burn or irritating ingrowns) and application of exfoliating gel, the service is finished with a mask of your choice. My personal favorite? the calming mask, a great way to soothe the pain after a wax. At $75 the service is certainly a splurge, but after seeing the results myself, it’s a true must have for every bikini wearing gal!

WALLET WATCH

Prices vary depending on service, “wax packs” are available as well which include a 10% savings on Stript’s most popular services, Brazilian and Brow’s.

THE BEST HAIR REMOVAL STRATEGIES FOR EYEBROWS AND BIKINI ZONES

GREEN BEAUTY EXPERT HIBBA KAPIL EXPLAINS THE MOST EFFECTIVE OPTIONS
Grace Gold  09.07.2012   |   GRACE GOLD    |   LEAVE A COMMENT

From eyebrows to the bikini line, women know all too well that hair removal methods in these sensitive areas can cause as much if not even more frustration than the hair growth does in the first place. But using the best method for your skin type can transform the experience from one dotted in angry red bumps to a landscape of smooth, silky skin.

Green beauty expert Hibba Kapil of Hibba NYC shares tips on how to find the best hair removal strategy for you.

EYE BROWS

  • If you have rosacea, dry skin or use Retin-A products that can make skin delicate, consider threading instead of waxing. Threading gives the brow specialist more shaping precision and control with the use of a thread that wraps around each hair, and doesn’t involve pulling the surface of the skin like wax. “Threading also lasts longer than waxing and tweezing,” says Hibba.
  • Waxing is better suited to normal to oily skin types, who are not easily irritated by the process. “Don’t tweeze for at least a week before your appointment,” instructs Hibba, so that there is enough growth to wax.
  • If you want thicker eyebrows, be sure to communicate that to your specialist. And have patience. “It might tkae more than two sessions, but will happen once you both understand your growth patterns,” says Hibba.

BIKINI

  • If you are prone to painful and unsightly ingrown hairs, consider sugaring instead of waxing. Sugar gel is all natural, and made of sugar, lemon and water. The mixture sticks to hair and not skin so that the hair removal process is less painful, and is known to cause far less frequent ingrown hairs than waxing – if any at all. “Sugaring also works like a slow laser over time, reducing hair growth,” says Hibba.
  • Before shaving or waxing, exfoliate the area with a body scrub to make results last longer, and to also prevent ingrown hair formation.
  • “For beach emergencies, just shave the bikini line instead of the entire area,” says Hibba, in order to minimize the risk of razor burn. And try to shave at least four hours before heading to the beach or pool, as immediate sun exposure on the fragile area can cause redness and sunburn.
  • Regardless of your chosen hair removal method, it’s wise to use a glycolic acid-containing product on the bikini area to speed up cell turnover in order to prevent ingrown hairs if you are prone.

Millennium Park Medical Spa

A WAXING SERVICE WITHOUT THE WINCING

ABOUT

Millennium Park Medical Spa is a no-thrills spa in the Chicago loop that offers facials, massages, and waxing services. The spa has been bringing luxurious spa treatments to Chicago’s residents for the past two years (they opened in June 2010) and has since developed a following of happy clients.

AMBIENCE

Located on the 17th floor of a high rise building on Michigan Avenue, the spa shares the space with the American Back Center. The neutral interior is calming, and the waiting area is quiet, which makes it perfect for relaxing.

EXPERIENCE

Waxing your nether regions is one task that never looks inviting on a to-do list. However, Millennium Park Medical Spa has turned a daunting grooming procedure into a bearable experience. When I first walked into the spa, the receptionist greeted me. I only had to wait a few minutes before my esthetician brought me back into the room. After a few pulls and rips, I was hair-free and still smiling. I was in and out in less than 25 minutes (because really, who wants to prolong a waxing service?) and only winced a few times. Millennium Park Medical Spa uses a combination of hard and soft waxes to make sure every last hair gets removed from the root. This was definitely one of the least painful waxes I have received, and my skin has stayed soft and smooth.

IN CROWD

Since this location is located in the loop, it’s perfect for those who work downtown and want to stop by after work. It’s also only a few blocks from public transportation and busses are right outside, so it’s easily accessible from all neighborhoods.

WALLET WATCH

Brazilian waxes are normally $60. Millennium Park Medical Spa also offers a Frequent Waxers Club that includes six brazilian waxes for $39 each. Not only are you saving over $20 on each wax, but also you don’t have to pay for all six up front, which will keep your body hairless and your wallet full.

He-Wax for Men at Bliss Spa

Tanya Sharma  Posted Tuesday, January 24, 2012 by ,

ABOUT

A truly “OMG, finally!” moment occurred when news of the newest Bliss Spa treatment hit my desk. Bliss, naturally, is known for its amazing repertoire of body-beautifying, skin-soothing treatments – for the ladies. Now, though, comes the amazingly titled He-Wax series, which has finally arrived in DC. Yes, He-Wax – and, as you may have guessed, it’s for the gents. This menu of hair removal services doesn’t leave a single body part untouched, so to speak. Whether his preference is to go completely bare (and we mean everywhere) or just remove a little bit here and there, he’ll find it on the comprehensive Bliss list.

AMBIENCE

Could you imagine running into He-Man himself in a place as elegant as the spa? Sure, it may not be where you’d expect to meet your local Masters of the Universe, but Bliss Spa aims to change things a wee bit with the arrival of He-Wax. Located within the chic confines of the W Washington, DC, Bliss exudes a cool, crisp aura in a relatively quiet environment – one that is surprisingly comfortable for the “he” in your life. Throw in some funky R&B emanating from the speakers and the delish brownies and it’s a recipe for unisex success.

EXPERIENCE

In comparison to other Bliss Spas, the DC location is on the small side. For the guy who prefers to take a low-key approach to his beauty regime, this could be a welcome alternative to the usual bustling spas in the metro area. Though he may want to delay his hair-ripping experience as long as possible, eventually he’ll be led back to the treatment room. The techs at Bliss are seasoned pros who are religious about cleanliness, which means they don’t double dip or go (gasp!) glove free. Using the iconic beauty brand’s famed “painless-as-possible” method, the tech swiftly removes hair from the body part of choice – think nether regions, face, arms, legs, chest, back and stomach.

IN CROWD

It’s more of a ladies’ hot spot, but Bliss doesn’t discriminate. Expect to spot a few discerning DC fellas who don’t turn their nose as the art of proper grooming.

WALLET WATCH

A basic brief (which removes hair from the top and sides down under) is $35. A brow wax is $30. A chest wax is $55.
