WHERE TO FIND

Though Los Angeles may be one of the warmer states through the winter months, that doesn’t mean Angelino’s don’t wish to parktake in some fabulous seasonal fashions. Case in point: The rise of Faux Fur.

Sure, real fur may be luxurious and very on trend, but it can also be quite pricey. Instead of breaking the bank, why not try the next big thing and go faux? Companies are manufacturing faux fur so well nowadays, it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference. Varying in all types of price ranges and styles, your winter style can go from dull to fabulous with one simple piece of faux fur.

 TREND ALERT

You’ve spotted the trend on celeb’s like Rachel Zoe, Giuliana Rancic, Jessica Alba throughout the city, all wearing different pieces of faux fur. So, what way can you incorporate the trend into your waredrobe? Try layering faux vests onto an everyday blouse,  a hat to glam up your bundled outdoor winter look, a scarf to keep stylishly warms, a stole to layer over your New Years dress, toasty gloves and of course coats are all great styles to try.

Check out these great buys all found on Nordstrom.com. The quality is high, products are rated well and the best part? All 3 are under $100!

HOW TO ADD SPARKLE TO YOUR HOLIDAY PARTY OUTFITS

THIS SEASON, ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD
Grace Gold  12.07.2012   |   GRACE GOLD    |   LEAVE A COMMENT

During this festive time of the year, it seems everyone wants to get in on the glitter action.

From clothing to accessories and even your makeup and hair, there are a myriad of ways to show some glamour. Here’s how to keep it classy, so that the sparkle doesn’t overwhelm you.

Keep Warm With A Cardigan

The Limited Sequin-Front Cardigan, $80

Pair a sequin cardigan with your favorite jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look that’s polished. Throw it on for a weekend get together, or wear it to the office for an afternoon party. Best yet, a cardigan transitions through all four seasons with ease, giving this look a big bang for your buck.

Grab A Sequin Clutch

Sondra Roberts Sequin Pouch, $138, Nordstrom

To keep the look of sequins classy, don’t wear the texture from head-to-toe. Instead, pick either a piece of clothing, one or two accessories, or your makeup to sparkle. This sequin pouch by Sondra Roberts has vintage appeal with a clasp closure and elegant satin lining.

Pop With Pailettes

DKNY Pailette Sequin Skirt, $295, Bloomingdales

If the center of attention is where you love to be, pailettes are your new best friend. The lacquered-like fabric catches and reflects the light with each step, and is like a grown-up version of glitter. Pair it with opaque tights and cozy sweater for a cute outfit that will also keep you warm.

The Perfect Pencil Skirt

Nic + Zoe Glitter Print Pencil Skirt, $142, Nordstrom

If your party environment is more posh, corporate or formal, go with a longer pencil skirt length instead, which can still be splashy and fun in a patterned shimmer fabric like this piece from Nic + Zoe. Wear with classic pumps or Mary Janes for a classically feminine look.

Go For A Statement Piece

Kate Spade On The Town Necklace, $298.

Planning to take a lot of holiday snapshots? Add glitter from your chest up with a big bauble necklace like this statement piece from Kate Spade. While chunky necklaces look alluring on an open neck and chest, they also work famously on winter-friendly sweaters and turtlenecks.

The holidays are here, with plenty of parties to attend and reasons to get dressed up! You have the perfect outfit, to-die-for shoes and an amazing shade of red lipstick…all you need is the perfect hairstyle.

This time of year we can get away with a little extra glitz and glamour so why not indulge with some beautiful, sparkly hair accessories . Hair bands and jeweled barrettes  are one of the easiest ways to to top off that perfect holiday look and work on all hair lengths and textures. Even if you’re not the most adept with styling your hair, you’ll love these accessories since they are simple and add a lot of wow factor.

HAIRBANDS

I love this jeweled headband from Nordstrom in this festive, deep emerald color, the gold one from Anthropologie is perfect for adding some boho glamour, while the double crystal from Shopbop is perfect for the classic ladies.

HEAD WRAPS

Head wraps give you a lot of versatility since they can make a bold statement like the black satin or the jeweled head wrap. Both would look beautiful with soft waves and a little bit of natural texture.

BOBBY PINS

Jeweled bobby pins look gorgeous pinning back stands of short and long hair. You could add them into a messy bun or pin back bangs. Any way you style them these booby pins will add sparkle to your style, making you feel ideal for special occasions.

BARRETTES

If jeweled bobby pins aren’t qutie enough sparkle for you, then definitely give these barretts a try. Place on next to a low pony or messy bun. Or for a truly spectacular holiday style, add some old Hollywood glamour and  brush out large Rita Hayward curls and pin back one side of your hair with these barrettes. You’ll be the toast of every party! (crystal barrettecrystal bouquet clipfeather clips)

Head to The Southcenter Nordstrom For Britain’s Affordable, Fashion Forward Line

THE HOTSPOT

Olivia Palermo, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Elizabeth Olsen and Sienna Miller are some of the most fashionable women in the world and they all shot at Topshop. Now Nordstrom is bringing the fashion forward and budget-friendly brand into several stores, including Seattle’s Southcenter Nordstrom.

AMBIANCE

Nordstrom has created spacious 4,000 square foot Topshop stores-within-a-store at 14 locations around the country. The Southcenter location will remind you of other Nordstrom departments like via C or Savvy,  and carries some of the most popular TopShop items, along with limited edition pieces created just for Nordstrom. Score! Peruse the racks for yourself or spruce up your boyfriend or husband with the Topman section, Topshop’s for the boys line.

EXPERIENCE

I have been praying to the fashion gods for certain stores to open in Seattle. I got my wish with H&M and the killer downtown Forever 21, but now finally a Topshop! (I am, however, still longing for Zara and Uniqlo). In case you’re not familiar with the British import, let me  explain why Topshop is so fabulous. Think of it as a young, hip, more fashionable, higher quality H&M,  with of the moment trends at pretty budget friendly prices. (Most items are under $100). You can get everything from clothing to accessories, shoes to jewelry and even makeup. Topshop is famous for collaborations with fashion royalty like Kate Moss and the late Alexander McQueen and boasts that British high street aesthetic. The clothes are always cool, and I frequently lust over the party dresses and rocker chic leather jackets. Plus, Kate and Pippa Middleton shop at Topshop…need I say more!

WALLET WATCH

Topshop is known for producing high fashion items and budget friendly prices. While prices range from $20 for tops to $400 for a leather jacket, I’d say most items will run you about $80 dollars.

Turning My Brown Eyes Blue – NARS & ELLIS FAAS 2012

Baby where did you get those Blues?

Anita Rivas  Posted Monday, June 4, 2012 by ,

Where to FindNavy eyeliner can be spotted on every fashionista from Fillmore Street to the Marina. The perfect thing about navy is that it works with all skin tones and on blondes, brunettes, and redheads alike.

Another plus, navy works well with a pink, peach and red lip. The look is very French, all that’s missing is your striped t-shirt, ballet flats and don’t forget your pearls.

Trend AlertNavy is a trend that makes the whites of your eyes appear whiter, and can be worn in both a traditional wing and the trendier cat eyes on the runway.

Blue shades are great substitutions for black; the color isn’t harsh and is one of those accessories that never let you down. If you’ve been in a makeup rut try navy, it will perk up your features and enhance your eyes.

Getting the Look: Recently Nars Cosmetics launched a navy to end our blues, Rue Saint Honore, which is part of the Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner Collection, another perk? It’s water resistant, just in time for summer. Another Iconic shade is ELLIS FAAS E113, a blue so ethereal you will never want to take it off.

All ELLIS FAAS Creamy Eyes are long-lasting and long-wearing shades of gorgeous color, the creamy texture instantly turns to a matte powder that glides on your lids for a smooth and seamless application. Your gorgeous eyes will sparkle and isn’t it time you turned your brown eyes blue?

Nars is available at Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York and Nordstrom.

Must Have Maxi Dresses for Summer

This Style Will Take You From Day To Night and Summer Weddings to Summer Vacation

Caitlin Murphy  Posted Wednesday, May 23, 2012 by ,

Maxi dresses are one of my favorite summer style staples. They’re one of the most versatile items you’ll have in your closet, and a maxi dress makes you look instantly glamorous weather you’re running errands or attending a summer wedding. The easy, loose fit, and floor grazing length works to keep you cool enough in hot, muggy weather and warm enough when the sun goes down. With a few simple swaps of accessories and shoes, you can take your maxi dress from day to night. Dress it down with flat gladiator sandals and a messy topknot or up the wow factor with killer heels, bold jewelry and beachy waves.

This season there are a few different maxi dress styles to keep in mind next time you go shopping.

The Tank Dress

This casual style usually comes in a soft cotton-jersey and is perfect for the weekend. It has a great easy flair and is ideal for ladies who want something a little more body conscious. Throw a soft denim jacket over top and a pair of wedges and this will be a go to piece for Sunday brunches and city shopping.

Splendid Tank Dress

The Volume Maxi

Pile on jewelry and a pair of gorgeous sandals and this is the perfect outfit for a summer wedding or garden dinner party. The volume maxi often has longer sleeves or a caftan like style and I love it in a great print.

(left: Alice and Oliva dress, right:Diane Von Furstenburg dress)

The Breezy Maxi

While maxi dresses come in numerous different fabrics, the silky, flowy ones are some of my favorites.   Perfect to transition from day to night, these dresses are so chic and sophisticated; you’ll look beautiful by the beach or in the city. Plus, you can play with full-length style or pick the trendier low-high hemline.

Seattleites Love TOM’s Shoes For Summer

Sport The Shoes That Keep You Stylish And Support A Good Cause

Caitlin Murphy  Posted Wednesday, May 23, 2012 by ,

WHERE TO FIND

With the stretch of summer weather we have recently in Seattle, I anticipated I’d see everyone walking around in their favorite summer sandals…well, I was incorrect. As it turns out, everyone was strolling the streets of donwtown Settle, University Village and Kirkland’s waterfront in their favorite style of TOMS shoes.

TREND ALERT

TOMS shoes are the perfect Seattle footwear choice since you get to look good while doing good. While traveling the world, TOMS founder Blake Mycosckie met children living in extreme poverty and they inspired his decision to start a shoe company with a noble mission. Today, for every pair fo TOMS Shoes someone purchases, a pair is donated to a child in need.

These slip on shoes are designed after the traditional Argentine alpargata shoes, which are similar in sytle to an espadrille. The “classic” comes in tons of differently styles including traditional canvas, Aztek print, crochet, glitter and prints plus, they come in every color under the sun. TOMS has also branched out  into ballet flats, peep toe wedges and even a wedding collection.

The shoes are lightweight and the sole molds to your foot making them uber-comfortable and stylish at the same time. ( A pretty impressive feat if you ask me…pun intended.) You can pair them with skirts, shorts, jeans and dresses and the flat sole makes then great for walking around. I think TOMS make the perfect vacation shoes since you can dress them down for sightseeing and dress them up with a maxi dress for dinner!

Don’t forget, when you purchase of appear fo yourself a child in need gets a new pair as well!

Get That Golden Glow…Safely

The Best Self-Tanners For Your Face

Caitlin Murphy  Posted Friday, May 11, 2012 by ,

Nothing says summer like a golden glow, but we all know better than to spend hours baking in the sun. This means it’s essential to wear sunscreen, and especially important to make sure your face is protected with a high SPF to prevent wrinkles and other signs of premature ageing. So how do you get that gorgeous bronzy glow without sacrificing the health of your skin? That’s where a great self-tanner comes to the rescue.

The skin on your face is far more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body, which could make you a little wary of using self tanner on your face.  That’s why I always use self-tanners that are specially formulated for the face. Doing so avoids breakouts, and that dreaded “muddy” look that comes from applying too much heavy product.

Clarins Liquid Bronze Self-Tanning for Face & Decollete is one of my favorite products for adding a little color to your visage. In fact, I use it year round. It creates a natural looking tan and looks great on all skin tones, even the fairest complexions. The fragrance is sweet and doesn’t leave that dreaded post self tanner scent; plus, the formula is moisturizing, smooth, and refreshing. Just apply it with a cotton pad to ensure even converge and you’ll have healthy glowing skin in no time.

If you want an option that’s a little easier on the budget, give Jergens Natural Glow Daily FACE Moisturizer a try. It comes in formulas designed for both fair to medium, and medium to tan skin tones, and contains an SPF 20. The principle is similar to the popular Jergens Daily Moisturizer with self tanner, in that the color shows up gradually after a few applications. It’s fool proof, so you won’t end up with streaks, just radiant skin like you’ve spent a few weeks on vacation.

5 Spring Shoes You Need Now

Check Out These Five Styles You Can’t Afford To Miss This Season!

Caitlin Murphy  Posted Thursday, April 12, 2012 by ,

Who doesn’t love shoes, right? Well ladies, we’re in luck this spring since there are so many great styles and trends to get our footwear ready for warmer weather!

Embellished flat sandals

No matter where you live, these embellished sandals will make you feel as if you’ve taken a trip to the beaches of St. Tropez or sands of Morocco. Flat sandals are a big trend for spring and summer. You can go glam with a bejeweled pair like these from Ivanka Trump, or bohemia like these from Nine West. Pair them with a maxi dress for an evening out or shorts while you’re on the go.

Platform Sandals

Platforms have been around for a few seasons, and they are here to stay in the form of this spring’s platform sandals. I love mine with wide leg jeans and dresses, but platforms also look perfect with the new (totally on trend) floral printed pants.  This spring is all about having fun with your platforms as they come in a huge variety of colors and textures. You can do neutral shades for mile long legs, or walk on the wild side with a color blocked pair like this one from Aldo.

Cork or Wood Wedges

Wedges are great since they give you extra height, they’re actually comfortable to wear, and (bonus) they’re easy to walk around in. I love them for daytime with a cute pair of shorts, thin t-shirt and bold colored blazer, or with a summersundress. You can do a cork wedge like these nautical inspired ones fromGucci, or you could try a wood wedge like these great everyday wedges from Nordstrom.

Espadrilles

With their easy, rope soles and comfy, cushioned fit, nothing says spring and summer like a pair of espadrilles. These shoes come in many different styles, from leather sandals, to canvas tops with ankle ties. Plus, they look equally chic and glamorous running errands or sitting poolside in a flowy dress while on vacation. You’ll definitely want to make sure you have a pair this spring, and I love this pair from Tory Burch.

Bold Pumps

If you haven’t already noticed, bold colors are everywhere this spring, and your footwear is no exception. In fact, if you’ve been a little unsure about the trend, and you’d like to dip your toe into the bold colored waters (pun intended), a bright colored pump is a great place to start. Pick you’re favorite color and pair with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans for an instant boost of confidence and glamour. I love these JCrew pumps in brocade blue, and I’d wear them with silky black shorts and a neutral colored blouse for the perfect pop of color.

Bridal Chic Comes to DC

Tanya Sharma  Posted Monday, March 12, 2012 by ,

THE HOTSPOT

Soon-to-be brides, take note. Bridal designer extraordinaire, Matthew Christopher, is coming to the DC area for a rare visit – and it’s definitely not one to be missed. In addition to his designing duties, Christopher is also Creative Director and CEO of his eponymous fashion house, which specializes in wedding dresses that are widely regarded for their dual elegance and comfort.

THE SCHEDULE

Even if you’ve been avoiding the Tysons corridor for the past few months in an effort to dodge all that dreaded construction, you may want to break your fast (it’s worth it, ladies) and make a pit stop at Nordstrom on March 29th. From 6pm to 9pm, Christopher will be on hand to mingle with brides, offer style advice, and showcase new gowns from his spring collection. In addition, guests will enjoy informal modeling and light fare.

GUESTLIST

It’s no surprise that Christopher is considered one of the most beloved stars of the bridal industry. The designer launched his collection in 2002 after spending several years working as a designer for Casablanca Bridal and Galina Bridal, where his creations were catapulted into the national spotlight via publications like Modern Bride and Brides magazine.

While Christopher’s gowns are thoroughly modern, some happen to exude a certain vintage quality – a little design quality sure to delight women intrigued with this season’s obsession of the 1920s. With ornate beading, intricate embroidery, and details like flowers and over-sized bows, his dresses are meticulously constructed. In addition to the obvious embellishments, there are the smaller details – intriguing trumpet skirts, A-line cuts, and full ballerina skirts among them. And don’t mistake these dresses for being all prim and proper, either; Christopher knows how to do drama like a pro, offering sheer lace waist cutouts and plunging necklines for a sexy, always-classy twist.

Must Have Trend

Move over boring blue jeans…this spring it’s all about reds, yellows, pinks and greens!

Caitlin Murphy  Posted Thursday, March 1, 2012 by ,

Bold, bright colors are going to be everywhere this spring, and denim is no exception. I think there’s no better way to usher in warmer weather than with pops of color, so make sure you have some in your closet.

While we’re used to jeans coming in different colors…it’s usually just varying shades of blue. Now, you can find a rainbow of reds, yellows, teals, and purples that will ensure you’re totally on trend this spring. Tons of celebrities love this look and it works on every body type so if you’re curvy like Kim Kardashian, athletic like Cameron Diaz, or petite like Sarah Jessica Parker, you’ll want to sport a pair of colored jeans.

HOW TO STYLE

Edgy: Pair a bright red or cobalt blue pair with a white silk tank, black leather motorcycle jacket, and bold chucky jewelry for an edgy look; perfect for a sexy, girls night out!

Sophisticated: Sport saturated purple and electric blue skinnies with a soft black shirt, black blazer and black pointy toe heels. The jeans are a fun pop of color while the more conservative blazer makes this look great for a dinner out.

Preppy: Don’t shy away from sporting several bold colors together and you’ll look preppy, chic, and totally in for spring. Grab a bold blazer or jacket and choose a white shirt, or go all the way preppy with a bright blouse like this one from equipment.

Weekend: For an easy weekend, look for colored denim in soft yellows or pink; like these from J Crew looks perfect when paired with a Chambray shirt and a pair of flats. You’ll look chic and pulled together while running errands or hosting

WHERE TO FIND

You can find these jeans at just about every price point.

  • The Gap has plenty of color options for under $70.
  • J Crew has colors including my favorite citron yellow and bright papaya jeans for $125.
  • Nordstrom offers Not Your Daughter’s skinny stretch colored jeans for $104. (I actually stopped a women at the grocery store who was wearing these jeans in purple lily to find out where she got them…they are fabulous!)

  • Urban Outfitters offers a nice selection for about $58.

Cozy Down Coats

Caitlin Murphy  Posted Friday, January 20, 2012 by ,

Sport this stylish upside to winter’s cold weather

 WHERE TO FIND

With winter weather in full swing, Seattle fashionistas from Ballard to Bellevue are dressing for the elements in super warm down jackets. But don’t’ be fooled…these cozy coats aren’t just about keeping out the cold, they also have so many stylish details that have Seattle ladies almost wishing for those wintery days.

 TREND ALERT

Once appreciated solely for their super warm and comfy function, down coats and jackets have made the transition  to full-on fashion. You don’t have to settle for that boring black or (gasp!) Pepto-Bismol pink being that the coats now come in  every color from winter white–to pops of yellow and red, or sophisticated navy, bold prints and even fun lavender shades for  the girly girl.  The new down coats are less puffy making them more figure flattering. And I love the belted styles since they create a waist and look both feminine and cool at the same time. When choosing a coat make sure you  pick one with a stylish silhouette and chic details like fur lined collars, cuffs and hoods (faux if you prefer) zippers or  exposed metallic snaps. Those details will keep the coat looking more fashionable and less ski chalet and the coats  look equally stylish over jeans or leggings and paired with stiletto heels or winter boots. Plus, just because the temperature dips below freezing doesn’t mean you have to give up looking your best…with the new down coat you’ll not only be incredibly warm you’ll also be incredibly stylish.
