13 HEALTHY TIPS FOR 2013

SIMPLE WAYS TO LOOK AND FEEL YOUR BEST IN THE NEW YEAR

We are about a week and a half into January,  so if you made a New Year’s resolution to get healthy, hopefully you are still going strong! In case you need a little motivation boost here are 13 healthy tips to incorporate into your 2013.  Getting healthy is all about making small changes, so each one of these tips is a quick easy thing you can do to live a healthier life in the new year.

1. Walk More: It turns out, sitting is really bad for us. It’s essential to get up on your feet everyday and in fact, doctors say we need to get at least 10,000 steps per day to maintain our weight and to promote physical fitness. Find sneaky ways to get more walking in, like moving around while you chat on the phone or taking an evening stroll.

2. Portion Control: We often eat much larger portions than we need to. A portion of meat should be the size of your fist, if you use butter it should be the size of the top of your thumb and half of your plate should always be filled with fruits and veggies.

3. Find A Workout You Like: If the treadmill isn’t for you then don’t worry about it. If you find exercises you enjoy doing you’ll be more apt to keep it up, so whether it’s  dancing, a group exercise class or walking the dog, find something you like to do.

4. Pack Your Lunch: You’ll save calories and money…who doesn’t love that!

5. Sweat Every Day: Even if it is only for 10 minutes, break a sweat each day. Play with your kids, jump rope even play the Kinect…just do something to get the blood going.

6. Eat An Apple A Day: This is one of the easiest ways to improve your eating habits…apples have tons of nutrients and belly slimming fiber plus they are so easy to eat on the go.

7. Try A New Workout: Switching up your regular routine will keep both you and your body from getting bored. Hit up yoga, Zumba a barre class or visit the new spinning studio.

8. Workout With A Friend: This tip will help you keep you workout appointments, plus spending time with friends is a great stress reliever.

9. Track Your Progress: There a so many apps and websites out there that help you keep track of weight loss or how many miles you’ve run , etc. I think tracking your progress is a great motivator because you can see how far you’ve come and you can see yourself getting closer to reaching your goals.

10. Eat Breakfast: People who eat breakfast weigh less than those who skip it. So grab a bowl of oatmeal or whole grain toast with peanut butter to get you going in the morning.

11. Try A Food Journal: Oh, food journals are one of my favorite weight loss tools. It turn out that half a cookie I keep eating eventually adds up to two or three cookies and much to my dismay, those calories actually count. Writing down what you eat helps you get a handle on what you’re putting into your body.

12. Lay out your workout clothes at night: Make your life a little easier and put all your workout stuff (clothes, shoes, socks, iPod play list) together at night and you’ll have one less excuse not to hit the gym in the morning.

13. Breathe: Stress is one of the worst things for our health…so in the new year, try to have less of it. Of course, life is bound to throw us crazy things, but if you take time to sit quietly and breathe each day, you’ll find yourself feeling calmer and more centered.

URBAN YOGA SPA

OFFERING HOT YOGA AND SPA SERVICES, THIS “HOT SPOT” IS A WINTER MUST

ABOUT

Seattle isn’t exactly know for it’s warm sunny weather, and when the winter months roll in, it’s rain rain rain. That’s why paying a visit to Urban Yoga Spa in January and February is almost essential for your sanity . The Hot Yoga room is a welcome respit from the dreary outdoors…the room in hot, like a vacation in Tahiti hot. And how great it this, not only does the location offer Hot Yoga classes, you can also enjoy massages, manicures and pedicures, acupuncture, eyelash extensions and waxing.

 AMBIENCE

You can’t miss this literal hot spot, as it resides on the corner of 4th and Stewart just blocks from Seattle’s downtown shopping core. The windows are large and reveal open, contemporary interiors done in serene whites, smooth reflective surfaces and geometric pops of black. This location is very zen, but it’s not your earthy kind of yoga studio. When you visit Urban Yoga Spa you know you’re downtown and it’s much more spa like..polished, sophisticated and very chic.

EXPERIENCE

Several friends of mine swear by Urban Yoga Spa, and since they sports some of the most impossibly tight triceps and flat abs, I knew I had to give it a try. The yoga room is very large with  white walls, mirrors lining the front and sides and very tall ceilings. Cathy is one of the most popular instructors, so my friends suggested I visit her class first, and as luck would have it, it chose an special Madonna themed session. (In my opinion, when the opportunity arises to listen to Madonna music for and hour, one does not turn it down!) The air was thick with humidity and the wall of heat hit me as I walked in the room…it was just what I needed. We flowed through several yoga sequences and when the intensity and heat where too much, I just laid down and enjoyed the warmth. The workout was INTENSE, and I may or may not have checked my watch several times to see if was going to make it. Afterward, however, I have never, and I mean never, felt better. There was a sense of calm and zen that I have never felt before or since, and I have to say, I crave that feeling. Plus I long for the hot room when that cold Seattle wind starts to blow.

If you want to check out the spa, just head upstairs.  You’re greeted with an immaculate white sanctuary bathed in natural light from the large windows overlooking the bustling streets below. You’ll find nail stations and massage rooms, it’s the ideal place to pamper your body inside and out.

WALLET WATCH

Single yoga classes are $20, there is a new member speical which offers unlimited classes for a month for $99. You can find prices for spa treatments HERE.

IN CROWD

These are your sophisticated yogis, so you’ll see lots of Lululemon outfits and stylish Nordstrom gals. There are plenty of guys as well and the atmosphere is wonderfully inclusive so you have every size, shape and age in each class.

GET A DEWY COMPLEXION IN WINTER

MAKE-UP FOR RADIANT SKIN
Samantha Wilson  01.08.2013   |   SAMANTHA WILSON    |   LEAVE A COMMENT

The drop in temperature and the harsh winds zap the moisture from our skin. Keeping your skin hydrated takes extra effort – and additional space in your medicine cabinet – as you switch to a richer day and night cream and guzzle water to keep you hydrated from the inside out. Plump, moisturized skin starts with your skincare, but you can achieve a dewy, glowy complexion in the winter with the help of a few cosmetics. Before you swear off the possibility of a glowing face, grab the following products and make a slight change in your makeup routine.

Primer

Most of us apply a primer before our makeup to create a flawless, even canvas and help our makeup last through happy hour. In the winter, get your hands on a primer to brighten and hydrate. If you have oily or combination skin but are suffering from surface dehydration, try Smashbox’s Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer, $42. This product is oil-free but contains Hydraplex, a desert plant extract, to immediately hydrate and seal in moisture. Normal to dry skins will love Benefit’s “that gal” brightening face primer, $29. This pearlescent primer has a bit of a rosy tint and contains light-reflecting pigments to illuminate the skin. If your skin tends to get irritated from the cold, you’ll appreciate the soothing chamomile in this primer.

Foundation

Winter is the time to put your powder foundation into storage and switch it out for a lightweight tinted moisturizer. Not only does your skin need the extra hydration, but powder will stick to dull, dead skin and emphasis the dryness; and thick, heavy foundations will just aggravate your winter-induced sensitive skin. If you’re a Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer devotee, you’ll love the Illuminating formula, $43. Its “Dewy Complex” will keep the skin moisturized while making your skin look naturally radiant. If you want a little more coverage, try Armani’s Face Fabric, $49. Super lightweight, Face Fabric has a mousse-like texture and glides on skin effortlessly. The coverage is light, but its Micro-fil technology blurs lines and imperfections for a flawless look.

Cheek Color

To keep your skin looking radiant and youthful, finish the look with a cream blush and a bit of highlighter on the cheekbones. An InStyle blush winner for over seven years, Stila’s Convertible Color, $25 will add the perfect pop of creamy color to cheeks. Pat a bit of Petunia onto the apples of the cheeks for an ethereal look. Top the look off with Benefit’s High Beam for extra luminosity.

ACV, AN AFFORDABLE WAY TO DETOX

Christina Marrale

Looking to cleanse your system in 2013? Sure, there are plenty of options to choose from, juice cleanses, gym memberships, nutrition plans and so on, but what’s a good option for the gal on a tight budget? Time to introduce one of my favorite household products, Apple Cider Vinegar!

Known to be a staple for some when it comes to cooking, the vinegar has a multitude of uses when it comes to wellness and detoxing the body from the inside, out. So, how does the product benefit exactly? In ancient cultures ACV was often used to purify the blood, as it can bind to toxins in the body, helping to eliminate them more effectively. It also aides in stimulating lymph circulation and aid detoxification in the liver, A healthy lymphatic system can remove toxins from the cells in the body while improving immune system response.

I prefer to add 2 tsp into a glass of water daily, making sure to brush my teeth afterwards to avoid any teeth erosion. Other great uses for the wonder product include:

  • Use it as a weekly soak and hair rinse to bring out shine and body. This also works wonders when mixed into your normal shampoo to give it clarifying properties, removing all the build up from daily product use.
  •  Adding a cup to a bath to improve muscle tone/firmness. That’s right, look and feel more toned all by taking a relaxing, 15 minute bath!
  •  Dab onto a cotton ball to exfoliate and help get rid acne. ACV is a form of citric acid which acts as a natural astringent, helping kill all forms of bacteria that lead to those dreadful pimples.

For best results, the brand of Apple Cider Vinegar should also contain the “Mother of Vinegar” which is natural substance formed during the last fermentation step. I prefer Bragg’s brand, found at any local grocery store.

LEGENDARY FRENCH SPA OPENS ITS FIRST WORLDWIDE RETAIL LOCATION IN NYC

ABOUT

Caudalie was created by Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas with the goal of offering clients effective skincare products using natural ingredients and luxurious textures. Seventeen years after the initial founding of the brand and with ten Vinothérapie Spas around the world (the NYC location has previously been reviewed on HeavenSalon), the couple launches their first worldwide Caudalie spa boutique in the West Village.

AMBIENCE

The new flagship boutique showcases the rich family history of the brand, with a unique sensorial experience by way of three mini spa treatments that are signatures of Caudalie. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Les Source de Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa on Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux, France, the design of the boutique taps into the soul of the brand through Mathilde’s and Bertrand’s personal style.  The front window of the boutique evokes the refined nature of the vineyard, immediately transporting guests with petite potted vine stalks.  Colors of white and Bordeaux red, coupled with magnificent Carrare Marble create an inviting aesthetic.  Like a window opening out to the vineyard, a large plasma screen is featured on the back wall, showcases images of the vineyard and a piece of Bordeaux within New York City.  A calming ambiance is set via custom lighting diffused by Niche Modern “binary” lamps, designed to resemble sliced grapes.

The “Beauty Barrel,” in the shape of the brand’s signature Vinothérapie Spa Barrel Bath, sits in the center of the store.  Clients can discover and try the products on their own or with the advice of a Caudalie expert through a personal skincare consultation.  Signature Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa rituals, like the drinking of organic herbal teas, play an integral part in the multi-sensory journey.

EXPERIENCE

Clients can create their own gommage scrub ($29) using the natural ingredients found in the signature Vinothérapie Crushed Cabernet Scrub (grapeseeds from Bordeaux,  brown sugar, honey from Gironde and a blend of six organic essential oils, including lemongrass, lemon, cypress, juniper, rosemary, and geranium).  Scrubs can also be customized with a choice of additional oil from Caudalie’s line of concentrates to slim, contour or nourish.

The 10-minute Instant Beauty Pick-Me-Up Service (complimentary) will offer client’s that certain “je ne sais quoi” that comes with a flawless, healthy glow.  The experience utilizes Caudalie’s top radiance boosting products like Teint Divin and the Divine Powder with tailored advice from a Caudalie skincare expert.  Skin will be radiant and glowing and the senses will be restored – all without the need of booking an appointment.

Or experience a moment of relaxation with a Hand Massage (complimentary) to relived tired and fatigued hands.  Utilizing gentle manipulation and Caudalie’s beloved Hand & Nail Cream, muscles will be relaxed, while skin is nourished and protected thanks to a moisturizing formula of grape oil, Vinolevure and Fair Trade Shea Butter.

HOW TO TREAT STUBBORN PSORIASIS

LOS ANGELES DERMATOLOGIST, DR AVA SHAMBAN, MD SHARES HER TIPS
Grace Gold  01.04.2013   |   GRACE GOLD    |   LEAVE A COMMENT

The harsh winter weather can trigger or worsen the skin condition known as psoriasis. Mysterious, uncomfortable, and in some cases downright debilitating, this skin condition is no fun. About seven million Americans suffer from it, and each year another 150,000 – 260,000 get diagnosed, says board-certified dermatologist,Dr. Ava Shamban, MD, who is also author of Heal Your SkinDr. Shamban shares her insight on how to detect, treat and prevent this stubborn condition below.

In its most common form, psoriasis is characterized by itchy, red, inflamed patches of skin, often covered with silvery scales.  We don’t know yet exactly what causes it—although it seems to be rooted in an autoimmune dysfunction—and haven’t discovered a permanent cure.  We do know that when ‘triggered’ psoriasis causes skin cells to develop at too quickly a rate.  A normal skin cell takes about a month to mature, but in those with psoriasis, this process takes only three or four days. These skin cells are improperly formed, and they can’t shed fast enough. Instead, they pile up–forming raised, scaly “plaques” that itch and leave skin below red and inflamed.

The good news is, although we’re still researching the permanent solutions, there are some proven ways—inside of the doctor’s office and out—to keep psoriasis under control.

Types of Psoriasis

Psoriasis takes several forms.  If you’re suffering from any of the symptoms described below, Dr. Shamban recommends that you see your doctor for diagnosis; it’s the first step towards treatment and control.

  • Plaque psoriasis – 80% of psoriasis sufferers have this most common form. Characterized by raised, inflamed, red lesions covered by a silvery white scale; it is typically found on the elbows, knees, scalp and lower back.
  • Guttate psoriasis – often starts in childhood or young adulthood, appears as small, red, individual spots on the skin, usually on the trunk and limbs. These spots are not usually as thick as plaque lesions.
  • Inverse psoriasis – appears as smooth and shiny bright red lesions, and is found in the armpits, groin, under the breasts, and in other skin folds around the genitals and the buttocks.
  • Pustular Psoriasis – begins with the reddening of the skin followed by formation of pustules and scaling, usually occurs in adults, and may be localized to hands and feet.
  • Erythrodermic psoriasis – affects most of the body surface and is particularly inflammatory. It entails periodic, widespread, fiery redness of the skin and the shedding of scales in sheets; often accompanied by severe itching and pain, heart rate increase, and fluctuating body temperature, causing protein and fluid loss leading to severe illness including infection, pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Patients suffering from a flare of this condition should see a doctor immediately and may require hospitalization.

Psoriasis Triggers

  • Stress –Stress can cause first time flare-ups or aggravate existing psoriasis.
  • Injury to skin –Skin trauma, such as vaccinations, sunburns, and scratches, can trigger a flare up (called the Koebner phenomenon).
  • Certain medications –Lithium, anti-malarials, inderal, quinidine, and indomethacin consistently trigger flare-ups; as does abrupt withdrawal from certain systemic medications, like cortisone.
  • Infections – Strep infections and other bacterial infections can trigger psoriasis flares.
  • Alcohol  consumption and cigarettes – Many patients report links between drinking, smoking, and flare-ups.
  • Dry skin – Psoriatic skin tends to dry out more easily; winter weather, wind, and excessive indoor heating can trigger lesions.
  • Diet – Some psoriasis sufferers report consumption of certain foods such as red meat, pork, tomato products, and even caffeine can exacerbate their condition.

Take Control

  • Psoriasis sufferers can take prophylactic measures to guard against flare-ups; they also have options for treatment inside and outside of the doctor’s office when skin goes into overload.

Prevention

  • Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle – Good nutrition, hydration, rest and regular exercise reduce stress and maintain the equilibrium your mind and body need to reduce psoriasis flare ups. These healthy habits strengthen the immune system and reduce chances of contracting psoriasis-aggravating infections.
  • Keep Positive – Attitude can go a long way towards decreasing psoriasis-inducing stress.
  • Avoid scratching, rubbing or picking at skin – Any injury to the skin can produce new psoriasis lesions or cause existing lesions to worsen.
  • Treat any infections as soon as possible –Whether its sinusitis, a urinary tract infection, or strep throa, any bacterial infection in your body can compromise your system and act as a trigger.
  • Moisturize, protect, and take special care of your skin – Babying your skin will go a long way towards keeping flare-ups at bay.  Bathe and shower in lukewarm water; pat skin dry and avoid scrubbing; apply sensitive skin moisturizers regularly and especially after bathing and in wintertime (the ingredients lactic acid and urea seem to have especially positive effects); use sunscreen; shave with an electric razor; and avoid synthetic clothing.

Treatment

  • Treat the disease before it worsens –The most effective way to stop the itching and appearance of new lesions in psoriasis is to treat the psoriasis properly as soon as the lesions appear. Consult your dermatologist at the earliest sign of a break out.
  • Light therapy – Lightbox treatments at your doctor’s office and/or some exposure to sunlight can ease symptoms; a moderate amount of sunlight enhances the production of vitamin D, which may be effective in controlling psoriasis. Sunscreen is still important, however, as a sunburn will trigger more lesions.
  • Anti-inflammatories and topical corticosteroids –can have successful results and alleviate symptoms.
  • Coal tar combined with light therapy (the Geockerman Treatment) – often alleviates flare-ups.
  • Vitamin D analogues (calcipotriene) & Vitamin A analogues (retinoids) – can help to control psoriasis.
  • Certain biologic agents – neutralize inflammation and successfully lessen the condition.
  • Anthralin and/or Anthralin combined with light therapy – this topical medication works to slow skin cell growth and thereby decrease lesions.
  • Bag Balm – the heavy-duty moisturizer used on cracked cow udders, can fill cracks on lesion-covered skin and lessen pain and discomfort.
  • Soaks – a lukewarm bath with added olive oil and milk or oatmeal can help alleviate dryness and itching associated with flare-ups; also, apply a washcloth soaked in diluted apple cider vinegar or baking soda to lesions for a similar effect.

Psoriasis is not contagious.  But your positive attitude can be.  Take heart, and stay flexible.  With education, exploration, and support from your dermatologist, you can successfully manage the condition and have many more good days than bad.  Kim Kardashian – a prominent psoriasis sufferer – certainly isn’t sitting at home.  Why should you?

RING IN 2013 WITH EMERALD

STAND OUT IN PANTONE’S COLOR OF THE YEAR
Samantha Wilson  01.04.2013   |   SAMANTHA WILSON    |   LEAVE A COMMENT

As we ring in 2013, we can toss out more than just our missteps from the year before; we can start removing those boring, unwearable shades from our wardrobe and introduce pieces with the color of the year: Emerald. A gorgeous, rich hue, emerald will transcend not just our blouses and dresses, but will make an appearance in our jewelry and even on our nails. If you are one whose New Year resolutions always backfire, you can make one notable one that will last you all year: introduce emerald into your closet.

A shade that represents healing and growth, emerald looks magnificent on all skin tones, body types and hair colors. To make a big splash into the emerald pool, purchase a dress in the daring hue, such as the Geometric Print Dress, $99. If you’re not ready to completely rock the emerald trend, start smaller with an emerald blouse or sweater, such as the Parted Ruffle Blouse by Anthropologie, $78, which pairs perfectly with a skirt or jeans.

Since emerald is a darker color, and darker shades are great at slenderizing and camouflaging our least favorite assets, emerald is a great color option for a skirt or pair of pants. Try the Sloan Pencil Skirt, $79.50 by Banana Republic, a gorgeous knee-length skirt that will add a pop of color to your work wardrobe. You’ll definitely stand out when sporting this vivid hue.

If you aren’t daring enough to bring emerald into your wardrobe by ways of tops or bottoms, try accessorizing with this powerful color. An emerald bag effortlessly matches most outfits, so make one splurge and purchase theMadison Leather Isabelle shoulder bag by Coach, $358. With a detachable shoulder strap, large interior space and pockets, this bag can be worn any day of the week. Want to start small instead? Opt for a manicure in this gemstone; try Essie’s “going incognito” or China Glaze’s “Exotic Encounters”.

PICK YOUR CURLING IRON LIKE A PRO

A GUIDE TO BREAKING DOWN BARREL SIZE AND MORE
Caitlin Murphy  01.04.2013   |   CAITLIN MURPHY    |   LEAVE A COMMENT

It’s a new year so it’s time to say goodbye to a few trends (wedge sneakers, yikes! and while we are on the subject, no more Gangam Style please)  and hello to new ones. (Look for bold stripes and peekaboo cutouts this Spring and Summer.)

However, there are some looks which have transformed from mere trends into classic styles and perfect tousled waves are just that. This  hairstyle is oh-so-flattering on everyone, exudes effortless sex appeal and easily goes from day to night…so it is sure to be around for a long time.

Tousled waves are actually pretty easy to achieve, you just need to make sure you are working with the right tools. In search of a new curling iron for myself, I recently learned that picking the perfect iron can be rather overwhelming. There are so many to choose from, many different barrel sizes, options with or without clamps and each one offers different results. To make things a little easier, here is a quick guide to picking your perfect curling iron so you can nail down those sexy waves for 2013 and years to come.

Barrel Size

  • Different the barrel size create different results so make sure you pick the right size. The bigger the barrel the larger the wave.
  •  1.5 -inch and 2-inch barrels are ideal for creating loose waves like you see on Gisele and Blake Lively.
  • 1- inch and 3/4-inch barrels create tighter waves and curls with more definition. This iron can be ideal for defining already wavy or curly hair.

Material

  • Ceramic and Tourmaline: This is the one the pros use since it’s the gentlest on your hair. Heat is evenly dispersed throughout the iron and tourmaline emits negative irons which close the hair shaft resulting in smoother waves with less frizz. If you curl your hair often invest in one of these.
  • Gold Titanium: Also good at conducting heat but won’t fight frizz.
  • Chrome: Least expensive, but not great for your hair and these irons are prone to hot spots.

Clamp versus Clamp-Free

  • Clamp: If you want to make sure you can do your hair quickly and you don’t want to have to master a new curling iron, then stick with the ones that have a clamp. They do a great job of creating waves and are the easiest to use. The drawback is you can control the size and shape of the wave, and sometimes you end up with kicks at the end of your hair.
  • No Clamp: These irons don’t have a clamp, you simply wrap your hair around the wand and hold it for a few second. (Don’t worry, they come with a heat protection glove so you don’t burn you hands). The clam-free iron creates the most ideal beachy waves and even bouncy curls since it gives you lots of control over how tight you want the waves to be.  I think this iron creates the longest lasting results, and the clamp-free wand allows you to point the barrel upside down and get close to the roots, just like the pros!

SUISSA SALON

ENJOY SOFT-AS-SILK HAIR COURTESY OF EXPERIENCED STYLISTS

Suissa SalonABOUT

Founded by the Suissa family in 1970, the eponymous salon laid its roots in Georgetown. With years of training and experience under their belts, the Suissas enjoyed immense success in DC. In 1988, they opened the Tysosn Corner location, which is owned and operated by Flora Suissa.

AMBIENCE

The frenetic pace of the chic Suissa Salon is evident as soon as you step foot inside. Confined to a crowded corridor on the first floor of Tysons Corner Center, Suissa is lined with products, styling stations and endless buzz and chatter. The effect may seem a bit daunting to those who prefer the solitude of a spa environment, but it’s smart to be open to a change of pace.

EXPERIENCE

Being open to the change of pace was what I encouraged myself to do as I stepped inside. Certainly the bustling nature of the salon suggests its popularity amongst clientele, and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have to wait even a minute before being whisked to the shampoo stations for my deep conditioning treatment. After my hair was gently shampooed and scalp thoroughly massaged (and I do mean thoroughly, with deep kneading and gentle circulations that felt heavenly), it was on to the main event. My stylist applied Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask to my hair, leaving it under heat for 10 minutes to allow it to penetrate. Then my hair was dried and meticulously styled by Gabriella, who transformed my hair into foxy, runway-worthy perfection.

IN CROWD

This accessible salon draws passersby seeking a quick cut, but what speaks to its prowess are the longtime devotees who regularly seek out their favorite experienced stylists for color, cuts and treatments.

WALLET WATCH

A deep conditioning treatment begins at $10, while a wash and blow dry starts at $40.

Fabulous bath and body products are one of those great luxuries everyone should afford themselves.  Cordelia Smith, one of Seattle’s favorite producers of small batch soap and lotions with her heavenly Sweet Petula line, has recently opened a retail store, Formulary 55. The new store showcases Smith’s own line, along with other brands she both uses and loves.

Just north of Seattle’s super chic University Village, you’ll find Formulary 55 tucked away in a large brick building in the Ravenna Neighborhood. The intimate shop is boasts soothing Robin’s Egg blue walls and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The rustic open shelving houses beautiful bottles and perfectly packaged products stacked beautifully in displays worthy of Martha Stewart. The shop is small, but very well appointed, making it one of those neighborhood stores you love to visit yourself and introduce to friends.  Behind the retail store, you’ll find Smith’s manufacturing house where she formulates her fabulous concoctions.

The shelves are stacked with small batch products like  Fig + Yarrow sea scrub, my favorite hand made Sweet Petula White Gardenia candles and soaps and  Mr. Mustachio shaving products for the guys.
